Our Story and Identity

GrowthAid was born from a calling, not just a professional journey, but a life-long conviction that to serve God is to serve humanity. Dr. Joe Lambongang, from his days as a child through academia to development work, always believed that true service must go beyond the pulpit and reach the forgotten. Inspired by Matthew 25:35–40, he founded GrowthAid in 2002 as a vehicle to bring dignity, health, and hope to the most vulnerable.
Originally focused on poverty alleviation, GrowthAid sharpened its mission in 2016 to address the root causes of inequality and ill-health, unsafe water, poor sanitation, and neglected tropical diseases (NTDs). Starting with a small team of students and teaching assistants, GrowthAid has grown into a reputable international organization, with country programs in Ghana and Uganda, and active partnerships across sub-Saharan Africa.
Though founded on Christian values, GrowthAid is non-denominational and non-political. We welcome and work with people of all faiths, cultures, and backgrounds. Poverty and disease know no boundaries and we believe diversity strengthens our mission to serve better.
Today, GrowthAid stands as a not-for-profit humanitarian and child-centered development organization. We deliver sustainable WASH and NTD solutions, strengthen systems, and empower communities through direct services, research, capacity development, and strategic partnerships, all to ensure that no one is left behind, no matter where they live.
