Job Summary: The WASH Officer is responsible for overseeing and implementing WASH interventions in the field. This role includes managing WASH activities, supporting community engagement, and ensuring that projects meet their objectives effectively and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
- Program Implementation: Lead and manage the implementation of WASH activities as per the project plan. Coordinate with field teams to ensure timely and effective delivery of WASH services and interventions. Supervise the installation, maintenance, and repair of WASH infrastructure such as water supply systems, sanitation facilities, and hygiene promotion tools.
- Community Engagement: Engage with community members to assess their WASH needs and involve them in the planning and implementation of activities. Conduct community mobilization and awareness campaigns to promote hygiene practices and ensure the sustainable use of WASH facilities. Facilitate the formation and training of community-based WASH committees or groups.
- Monitoring and Evaluation: Monitor the progress of WASH activities against project targets and indicators. Conduct regular field visits to assess the effectiveness of interventions and gather feedback from beneficiaries. Prepare and submit detailed reports on project activities, achievements, challenges, and recommendations.
- Technical Support: Provide technical support and guidance to field staff, contractors, and community members on WASH-related issues. Ensure the application of appropriate technologies and methodologies in WASH interventions. Conduct needs assessments and feasibility studies for new WASH projects or improvements to existing ones.
- Capacity Building: Train and mentor local staff, volunteers, and community members on WASH practices and techniques. Develop and deliver training materials and workshops on topics such as sanitation, water quality, and hygiene promotion.
- Coordination and Collaboration: Coordinate with other NGOs, government agencies, and stakeholders to ensure integrated and effective WASH service delivery. Participate in relevant coordination meetings, working groups, and clusters to represent the organization’s interests.
- Resource Management: Manage project resources, including materials, equipment, and supplies, ensuring they are used efficiently and effectively. Support procurement processes and inventory management in line with organizational policies.
- Compliance and Quality Assurance: Ensure all WASH activities comply with organizational standards, donor requirements, and relevant regulations. Implement quality control measures to ensure high standards of service delivery and project outcomes.
- Risk Management: Identify potential risks related to WASH activities and develop strategies to mitigate them. Address and resolve any issues or challenges that arise during project implementation.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in environmental science Social word , Public Health, or a related field.
Experience: Minimum of Two [2] years of experience in WASH programming or related areas, preferably in an NGO setting.
Skills:
- Strong technical knowledge of WASH systems, including water supply, sanitation, and hygiene promotion.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in challenging and diverse environments.
- Proficiency in project management tools and software.
Languages: Proficiency in [specify languages relevant to the location].
