Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) is key in the development of oneself. Drinking of safe water save humans from diseases such as cholera, schistosomiases, and many others. Practicing good Sanitation and Hygiene makes one highly respected and as well prevents diseases. People in the remote villages do suffer from these basic WASH services hence contracting diseases that can be neglected.
GrowthAid, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) specialised in providing WASH services and prevention of Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with communities in the Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly, Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly and Upper Manya Krobo District Assembly to provide safe Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) services as part of their community engagement. The MoU signed served as an agreement between GrowthAid and the project communities that aims to facilitate the effective implementation and sustainability of the project in the communities
The Signed MoU contains the duties expected from the communities such as providing available land space for borehole drilling, provide leadership and motivate household heads to construct latrines and handwashing facilities and many others.
The signing of the MoU was done in each project community. The signing was done on the durbar grounds for some communities, others were in schools’ classroom, church’s auditorium, among others. Despite their busy schedule, the community members along with their leaders, came in their numbers to the grounds to seek clarification from the staff of GrowthAid.
During the signature, GrowthAid stressed that the organization is non-partisan and in view of that, urged the communities not to use their project for political gains. GrowthAid made known that, the communities are to ensure the project remains non-political throughout the process.
GrowthAid further made it clear that, the organization will surely fulfill their promise and made references to Anumako, Gyerkiti, Oborpah and others where the organization has supported with similar facilities during the past year.
The Chiefs of the communities expressed their enthusiasm to the organisation and agreed to carry out the tasks they have agreed on as specified in the agreement.
